I have many sites using W3 but I cannot enable ‘Late initialization’
the button is greyed out, why?

Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to assist you with this.
TheLate initializationoption is not available if you are using the Disk: Enhanced caching method for Page Cache in the W3 Total Cache settings.
In order to be able to use this option, you need to switch to Disk: Basic or any Memory based caching like Redis or Memcached.I hope this helps!
