Am I able to restore single folder with Total Upkeep?

I wanted to restore one plugin from an older backup. The new plugin had a bug in it that was a big problem on my site. The plugin included a bunch of files in multiple subfolders. In this case, there weren’t too many, so I went through each subfolder and restored the files individually.

But there’s another, more important reason, that this feature is very important. That’s to work around a design bug in Total Upkeep.

My site is running on GoDaddy managed WordPress. GoDaddy manages WordPress and the O/S for me so I don’t have to deal with these. It’s very popular and I’m sure you have many other customers using this and similar products. Some of the files in my WordPress environment are protected so only GoDaddy can modify them — they don’t want me messing around with them.

I found I need to exclude several files from my backup with these files excluded: .git,node_modules,WPCORE,/wp-content/db-error.php,/wp-content/index.php,/wp-content/mu-plugins,/wp-content/object-cache.php

If I don’t exclude these, the backup will work fine, but the restore will fail with a fatal error. I consider this to be a huge design bug in Total Upkeep! The last thing a user wants is for their backups to appear as if they are good, but then the restore failing! If I have an un-restorable backup I would need to go through and selectively restore all the files and folders except for the problematic ones. This is many thousands of files and folders! Obviously I can’t restore each file individually!

In my case, since this is a file permissions issue, I couldn’t have possibly changed these GoDaddy-manged files and just skipping them would be fine.

So instead of giving a fatal error, Total Upkeep should just give a warning. Or perhaps have a setting for the user to specify how to handle these.

Please let me know if I misunderstood how your product works, and if there is some other way to deal with this issue.

Thanks, Brandon, for checking into this issue. If I understand Total Upkeep properly I think it is a serious problem for you.

Regarding rollbacks, the WP Rollback plugin you mentioned doesn’t always work. I use that plugin, but if the plugin that I want to rollback is a premium plugin which is not available from the normal WordPress plugin page, then WP Rollback also won’t have older versions available. That was the case in my situation, so instead I had to get the older version from the backup.
