On my home page I have added the words contact me and I want to link it to the email page that I created, yet it is not working.

I had a similar problem. I found that I could use the Contact Form by WPForms plugin. I don’t remember the exact instructions but I added one of their contact blocks to my website. I opened the WPForms plugin – Create contact form-settings-notifications-add email-save. That worked for me.

I know how to embed the form which I have done already, but do all the pages need to be active before a link works. I created the insert/edit link.

The page that the contact form is embedded on does need to be active, yes.
