Hello, when I create a backup of my website, it does not upload to Google Drive. I have Google Drive authorized and configured. Currently I am getting an email every 10 minutes, which includes the following:
Task: Upload backup file to Google Drive
* status: fail
* start: 2023.10.11 07:51:28 pm
* end: 2023.10.11 07:51:28 pmThank you for your assistance.
October 12, 2023 at 1:09 pm #108872Brandon CKeymasterHi Leane,
Thanks for reaching out, sorry to hear you’re having problems uploading your Total Upkeep backups to Google Drive. In some cases, reauthorizing Google Drive can solve this problem. You can do this by going to Total Upkeep > Settings > Google Drive in your WordPress dashboard and clicking on the “Deauthorize” button. After that, you can reauthorize Google Drive.
It’s important to note that when sending your Total Upkeep backups to Google Drive. You want to make sure the box is checked for Google Drive storage from the Total Upkeep -> Settings -> Backup Storage section.
Lastly, you want to confirm that you have enough storage space available in your Google Drive. If your storage is full, the backup will not be able to upload.
We have some questions for you so that we can begin troubleshooting:
1.) Is this your first time attempting to send a backup to Google Drive using Total Upkeep? If not when was the last time you were successfully able to complete a transfer?
2.) If this is not your first time attempting to send a backup to Google Drive did you first experience this error? Was it after making a change to your WordPress site such as, updating your PHP version, core WordPress version, or Total Upkeep/Total Upkeep Premium plugins etc?
3.) Could you please allow us review your backup logs?
To view your logs visit the “Tools” section of your Total Upkeep dashboard, click Logs and look for your most recent log. It will have a name like
archive-XXXXXXXX.log
. If you can copy that and paste it here, we’ll be able to get some more information about what went wrong.You can copy/paste them using a PasteBin and create a link and share it with us here in the thread.
Thanks Leane, we’re looking forward to helping you to get this up and running quickly!

I have tried reauthorizing my google drive, but that didn’t seem to help. I also confirmed that I do have sufficient storage space available.
I started backing up my website to google drive about 3 years ago, but it appears that it stopped working quite a long time ago and I didn’t realize it – the most recent backup on my google drive is dated May 12, 2021. Since it was so long ago, I don’t know why that would have happened or what changes may have taken place on my website at that time.
I am starting to wonder if this issue is even bigger than I realized as I went to look at my most recent backup on my website (from two days ago) and it will not let me access any files and folders or database for that backup. It says “An unknown error has occurred when trying to get a listing of the files in this archive.”
Two days ago I had an issue on my website and had to deactivate and reactivate all my plugins. Since that time, I have received an email every 10 minutes informing me that a backup archive has been created for my website, triggered by WP cron. I don’t know why it is doing this (I have a scheduled backup once per week), and the only way I have figured out how to make it stop is to deactivate my total upkeep plugins.
Here is my most recent archive log:

[2023-10-11 20:14:21 UTC] Backup process running: NoOctober 16, 2023 at 4:06 pm #109507Brandon CKeymasterHi Leane,
Thanks for sending over your log. It seems to be an automated cron process running although you’ve canceled it. Normally when this happens you can remove the cron job by completely removing Total Upkeep and then reinstalling the latest versions of the plugin.
You’ll find both plugins inside of your BoldGrid Central accounts “Plugins” section. After reinstalling Total Upkeep you’ll want to check your Google Drive settings and confirm that (1) in your Total Upkeep settings you do have “Google Drive” checked, and (2) you’re using “Cron” and not “WP Cron”. And then retry authorizing google drive and running a backup.
Thanks Leane, we look forward to helping you to get this resolved!
October 19, 2023 at 9:28 am #109903Leane WingerGuestHow do I confirm that I am using “Cron” and not “WP Cron”? I did everything else you said and unfortunately it didn’t seem to change anything, so I am hoping that if I can complete that final step it might make a difference. Thanks
October 19, 2023 at 9:36 am #110022Brandon CKeymasterHi Leane,
Thanks for trying those methods. System Cron may not be available on your site, because not all WordPress hosting includes access to the System Cron. If it is available you can find it inside of your Total Upkeep backup settings. Total Upkeep > Settings > Backup Schedule, then scroll to the bottom of the page and you see a drop down under scheduler.
If that doesn’t work we’ll switch gears because from the looks of your log the full backup is completing. It’s just a matter of if it’s actually attempting to send it to the remote server or if it’s still being stored on the web server somewhere. If you have lots of old backups in your Google Drive try clearing them out and retrying your backup to see if it effects your “Retention” settings.
Thanks Leane, we hope to hear back from you soon!
October 20, 2023 at 11:15 am #110129Leane WingerGuestIt seems that system cron is not available to me. I checked the place you mentioned and there isn’t a drop down under the scheduler.
I went onto my google drive and deleted all of my old backups except for the most recent one. Unfortunately, this didn’t seem to make any difference. WP cron continues to try (and fail) to upload to google drive every 10 minutes, and when I initiate a backup it seems to complete the backup but I cannot access any backup files and it will not upload to google drive.
October 20, 2023 at 3:54 pm #110301Brandon CKeymasterHi Leane,
I’m sorry to hear you’re still having trouble with this. There could be a deeper issue at play and we would like to take a direct look if that’s okay with you. I encourage you to reach out to our BoldGrid Premium support directly from your BoldGrid Central account dashboard.
If you need help accessing your BoldGrid Central account you can review this guide for assistance. From there you can give us permission to access your site directly and inspect the issue.
Thanks Leane, we’re looking forward to helping you resolve this!
