I have just posted a new blog but cannot seem to get the ‘read more’ tag inserted. I know I have used it before, but I must have forgotten a step or something because everytime I try to use it, it places the ‘read more’ at the end of the piece rather than where I am attempting to put it.

You can find the Read More tag in the editor controls. It appears like two solid bars with a dashed line in between them:
Once it’s been inserted, if it didn’t land where you need it, you can use the directional control to move it up and down your post:
