    Hi,

I had W3TC setup incomplete by a colleague with some incorrect settings. I don’t know if he started and completed the setup guide.

I am in the process of going through all the settings and adjusting them via Performance > General Settings and the other menu items underneath in the WP admin sidebar. I am following the recommendations of this guide.https://onlinemediamasters.com/w3-total-cache-settings/#object-cache starting at 4. General settings. Is this a good guide to follow?

Is it necessary/recommended to complete the setup guide first? Are there any important settings missing if I don’t? If I start again with the setup guide now, would all my other settings be lost and set back to default?

Also, there are 2 buttons underneath each section, “Save all settings” and “Save Settings & Purge Caches”. Which one do I need to click to save my changed settings? My changes in one section did not update at one time after I clicked one of these buttons.

    Thanks,
    Mel

    Hello Mel,

Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to answer your question.
The Setup guide was created to help novice users get introduced to the W3 Total Cache basic setup.

It’s not necessary to complete the Setup Guide wizard. You can run the Setup guide anytime, and if any of the settings are already enabled, the Setup guide will not revert anything to default.
You should avoid using Object Cache if the only available caching method on your server is Disk, so it’s recommended to use Redis or Memcached in this case. However, your website does not need OC as it runs very fast and it’s not object dependent.
You can use save all settings to save the settings you made in the general settings or individual modules. So if you are changing more than one setting, you can save the settings and go to another module and after that purge the cache.

The cache needs to be purged in order for the changes to reflect on the website, so use Save All settings & Purge the cache once you wish to finish changing the settings and check the website.

    Thanks!

    Hi Marco,

Thanks for the information! So the “Save Settings & Purge Caches” button only saves the settings in the same module window?

    Hello Mel,

    Thank you for your feedback.
Yes, or in the General settings. If you try to change the settings and leave the page without saving the settings, you will be notified that the settings were changed and if you leave without saving, the settings will not be saved.
    Thanks!
