The W3 Total Cache Pro offers additional options that can be used to further improve the performance of your website. Depending on how the website is developed, what plugins are used, and what metrics you are using to check the website performance, you can use the PRO options to configure the plugin accordingly.
No plugin can auto-improve the website performance by just enabling it, as all websites are different and it could lead to breaking scripts and CSS if something like that would be attempted.
So to answer your question, W3 Total Cache Pro unlocks additional options for optimization.
