Hello,
Thanks for your question about the Swifty theme and the placement of the site title and tagline in your other pages. I loaded the Swifty theme and then looked at the 2 other pages with a test title and tagline. There is a slight difference in placement and that appears to be a part of the formatting of the theme. If you wish to change it, you would need to change the CSS for the theme. For more information on how to do this, please see How To Use Google Chrome Developer Tools to Customize CSS in BoldGrid.
Arnel CMemberHello,
Thanks for the question about making your background title permanently opaque. We’re not sure what you’re referring to or what you have done to change the code. Can you please provide us a URL for your site and then explain the changes you have made? We can look at a base install here, but it won’t be the same as looking at your site. Check out this article to inspect the CSS that applies to the BoldGrid theme:
December 11, 2017 at 10:47 am in reply to: Where I could find the Custom Footer HTML area in the latest version of WEDGE theme? #23320Arnel CMemberHello Cesar,
Sorry for the issue with the Custom Footer HTML area that you’re not able to see in the current release of the Wedge theme. I loaded the Wedge theme and then looked at the areas for making changes. There are no footer widgets in the Wedge theme by default, but you can add them. The customization option lets you add multiple types of widgets. If you need to add custom CSS code, you would go to the Advanced section of the customizer and then add the code under the custom theme section. You can also make direct changes by going to the option called CSS/HTML Editor in the WordPress admin dashboard. The interface has been updated so, the location for the changes you’re referring may be in a different area. For more information, please let us know what changes you’re referring to, where you had made them in the past (including the version). We can then determine where the functionality has been moved.
December 11, 2017 at 10:16 am in reply to: How do I change the color of the phone number text from blue to a lighter color? #23324Arnel CMemberHello!
Thanks for your question about changing the one element in the footer (the phone#). This can be done with custom CSS. For a general guide on how to do this, please review How to Use Google Chrome to Customize CSS in BoldGrid. In order to change the color, do the following:
1. Log in to the WP Administrator Dashboard
2. Click on Customize
3. Click on Advanced
4. Click on Custom JS & CSS
5. In the blank white box under Custom Theme CSS, add the following:
.contact-block-3 {color:#f1f1f1 ;}6. Click on Publish in order to save your change.
The color change is based on the HTML #. If you need help finding the color, please see HTML Color Codes for further detail. The CSS change is put in the custom section so that the customization is not lost should you perform an upgrade to the theme or BoldGrid software.
Arnel CMemberHello Michael,
Thanks for the question about adding non-BoldGrid plugins. BoldGrid is a plugin itself, so if you are unable to add plugins then you will need to check with the administrator (if you aren’t the admin already). If you’re using the WordPress Networked installation (what used to be called “multisite”), you need to be logged into the central network admin account in order to add plugins. I regularly test WordPress with BoldGrid and other plugins, but I have never had an issue with loading other plugins. If you continue to have the problem, please let us know what plugin you’re trying to load and what versions of BoldGrid you’re using.We can then investigate it in more depth.
Arnel CMemberHello Kemmy,
Sorry for the problem with your Ultimate Branding plugin. This appears to have been an issue with that plugin in the past. Here’s a post of a similar error in the wpmudev.com site:
Warning: Array_DIFF()[Function.array-Diff]: Argument #1 is not an array
You may need to speak with the developer in regards to the plugin issues. If you have any further questions, please let us know.
December 6, 2017 at 5:05 pm in reply to: I was unable to customize my pages after updating to WordPress version 4.9.1 #23349Arnel CMemberHello RhondaK,
Sorry for the problem with the Customize option after upgrading to WordPress 4.9.1. As per my last answer on the issue, we would need more information concerning the versions of the BoldGrid plugin you’re using. There was an update to the plugin, so be sure to make sure that it is updated as it may resolve your problem.
December 6, 2017 at 11:07 am in reply to: Received a notice that them Hifide has outdated Woocommerce templates. Is that something BoldGrid addresses? #23342Arnel CMemberHello Lisa,
Sorry for the issues with the templates. We have notified the developers concerning the theme issue. When it is updated you will see a Theme update notification. Apologies that we don’t have a timeline on the issue at the moment. When we get more information we will update this query.
Arnel CMemberHi Tony,
Your question is missing a word, but I’m assuming that you mean that you want to NOT see the menu locations you’re not using. You can’t really remove those, but if you choose only the menu that you’re using, then only those will appear. The menu system is set up so that you can change between menus based on the location. You can choose what is shown by editing the locations in the Dashboard. At the bottom of the Customization page for Menus, you should see the option for Edit in Administrator. Click on that, then click on the tab for Manage Locations. If you select “Select a Menu”, then there will be NO menu displayed for that location. For Widgets, you can do the same thing. Click on Edit in Admin then you can select the widget in the location where you don’t want it and remove it.
December 4, 2017 at 2:09 pm in reply to: How do I change the “Continue reading” link text in a post to something else? #23359Arnel CMemberHello RCPess,
Apologies for the issues with the change in the Read More functionality. This is theme related in BoldGrid, and you are correct in that the option to change the text is currently not operational. I checked it in both the current release of WordPress without the BoldGrid plugins and also with the plugin loaded. There is a solution that you can employ, but it requires that you make a child theme, and then add code to the function.php file. It will also change ALL of the “read more” links instead of per post. If you want to do that, please let us know and I can post those instructions.
The other solution is to load the new Gutenberg editor that WordPress is currently developing. This editor includes the Read More option as a block. It’s also very easy to edit the text in that block. The only caveat is that WordPress has emphasized that this plugin is still in development. It will eventually replace the existing TinyMCE editor in WordPress in version 5.0.
If you want to check it out follow these steps:
- Load and activate the plugin
- Create or edit your post in Gutenberg
- You will need to add the block AFTER the area where you want the Read More option to show. You can do this by hovering over the middle bottom of the section above where you’re going add the block. You will see a + sign. Click on it.
- You will see a pop-up window. Click on the Blocks option in the window and then scroll down until you see Layout Blocks. Click on MORE to add the block.
- Once the block appears you can then double-click on the text to change it. It’s very simple!
- When you’re done with your change, click on UPDATE or PUBLISH in the top right corner of the editor. You will see the option to schedule your published document or to immediately publish it.
If you need to write a custom Excerpt, the option is in the right column.
Hope that helps! Please let us know if you require further assistance.
Arnel CMemberHello,
Thanks for the question about removing the edit icon from a page block. I double-checked this and the icon does not appear when viewing the page without being logged in. In order to check it, you should not be using the same browser or be using the private mode for the browser to view the site anonymously. The browser will cache your user and still view the site as your logged in user, otherwise. I tested in two different browsers. I was only able to see the edit icon when logged in as the admin:
December 4, 2017 at 10:45 am in reply to: I was unable to customize my pages after updating to WordPress version 4.9.1 #23351Arnel CMemberHello Bernardo,
Sorry for any problems with Customization of your site after updating to WordPress 4.9.1. We would need more information on the issue as BoldGrid is working in version 4.9.1 as far as we can tell. Make sure that your plugins are updated to the latest version and turn off or reset caching if you are using it. If you continue to have the problem, then please provide us a URL and more information concerning the problem that you are having.
Arnel CMemberHello Richie,
Sorry for the problems with the BoldGrid site not loading. Make sure that your plugin and themes are all appropriately updated. If they are and the problem repeats, then please provide a domain name so that we can look into the issue in more depth.
Arnel CMemberIf you are using BoldGrid, you can always preview the page in the editor using the different screen sizes available in the editor. The centering will depend on the theme that you are using. We need more information (such as your site’s URL) in order to help troubleshoot the problem. Please provide us this information plus any relevant steps you may have taken so that we can determine the source of the problem.
If you have any further questions, please let us know.
Arnel CMemberHello Lisa,
Sorry for the problems with the social media links. When I test, I see them work, so I’m not sure why they are not working on your site. We would need a URL in order to verify. Are you clicking on PUBLISH after you customize the links? If you don’t, then the changes will not be saved.
In regards to the color of the menu links, you would need to make some CSS changes for that. This is not normal functionality for the BoldGrid plugin. You can check out this previous question post for the answer to making a change to the links, though.
If you’re trying to make a change in WooCommerce you may need to consult with their support for the appropriate steps to make changes to their text colors. It will most likely involve some coding as it is not a normal part of WooCommerce’s functionality to make that type of change.
If you have any further questions, please let us know.
December 1, 2017 at 11:52 am in reply to: Does anyone know how to add pinterest in the social menu? #23363Arnel CMemberHi Lisa,
Thanks for your question regarding adding Pinterest to the Social Menu. Yes, this is possible, and it’s actually fairly simple.
- Log in to the WordPress (BoldGrid) administrator dashboard
- Click on Customize
- Click on Menu
- Select the Social Media section that is being used in your Menus – you can tell by looking checkboxes under the menu section. The location of the menu will be indicated by the selected checkbox
- Click on the Social Media section and you should see the existing list of Social Media options. Click on Add items at the bottom of the list.
- In the section to the right you should see the option for Custom Links. Click on the drop-down arrow to expand if necessary.
- Type in the URL for your Pinterest site.
- Click on Add to Menu.
- Click on the blue Publish button in order to update your site with the new Social Media link.
The Pinterest icon should automatically be added. I was able to test it and see it appear. Let us know if you require any further assistance!
Arnel CMemberHello Cliff,
Sorry for the problems with your WordPress installation. It appears related to your host’s installation of the WordPress site and Boldgrid plugin. If you requested it with the account, then the site would typically be installed on the primary domain. However, it looks like some information may have been missing during the creation of the account. In other words, you appear to have 2 WordPress installations. Your host may have installed a separate WordPress installation in a different folder. If you want all of your content to be in the “trektheone.com” site, then you need to work on that specific site. When you log in to that site, the typical Administrator login would be http://trektheone.com/wp-admin. You should delete the second site (trektheone/bg_trektheone) and make sure that BoldGrid is properly installed on your main site. As this is a hosting issue, you may want to consult with their technical support team if you require further assistance.
Arnel CMemberHello Bona,
I took a look at both of your website pages and neither have a page or post where people can provide feedback. WordPress provides feedback option (via comments) only on pages or posts. You would have to create a post or page and then publish it to your site so that people can provide feedback. It doesn’t look like you have published a page where the option is visible. Enabling/disabling comments is not a BoldGrid feature – it is a feature built into WordPress and something we know that works even with the BoldGrid plugin. If the problem recurs, then I would recommend disabling your plugins and using a base theme (e.g. twenty-seventeen) to see if the basic functionality of WordPress is working. Remember though, you won’t see the option for a comment if you don’t publish a page or post with the option enabled.
Arnel CMemberHellow Dawn,
Thanks for your question about pointing another domain name to your website URL. The solution to this is named differently based on the web host service that you’re using. Some call it using a domain alias or domain parking (often depending on the version of the software you’re using). Basically, you would need to go to your domain management in the web hosting software that you’re using. For example, in cPanel (the newer versions), you would go to the Domains section and then select Aliases. You can then assign your other domain so that any traffic using that domain name will be directed to your existing domain. You may need to consult with your web hosting company’s technical support if you require further assistance.
If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know
November 28, 2017 at 10:46 am in reply to: How can I create a new web design in the background? #23386Arnel CMemberHello Mariana,
Thanks for the question about building your website in the background. The option to use a Staging site is a solution that may just fit your exact needs. This option allows you to keep a site active while working on another that people cannot see. When you are done, you can then publish the staging the site taking the place of the live site. You would need to have built the original site in WordPress, though. Check out this article on setting up Staging in BoldGrid for more information.
November 28, 2017 at 10:38 am in reply to: Is it possible to create a fixed header and nav bar at the top of my site? Kind of like the one on this site. #23383Arnel CMemberHello Ken,
The functionality for a fixed header and menu depends on the theme. It is not available for every theme as individual themes are designed differently. This functionality is not something you can apply to any theme due to the responsive design constraints. There are plugins you can add to your WordPress site that can add this option as well. Make sure to experiment with it first and see how it affects your chosen Inspiration/theme. Check out this plugin as an example. The solution for the header on any theme can also be resolved with a plugin.

November 28, 2017 at 9:14 am in reply to: Do you have a “blank” template where I can drop in: Columns, Rows, Headers, Sliders, Text, Photos, etc. without having to choose from too many pre-made blocks? #23381Arnel CMemberHello Ira,
Thanks for the question about a “blank template” for use in creating pages/posts with BoldGrid. You can always create a blank page and then not use the pre-built blocks. You would have to define all of elements of the page on your own. It would be easier to simply find the closest matching prebuild block and then delete the sections that you don’t need in the block. You can also go to existing blocks and copy the code in the text section if you want to move specific elements to a blank page. However, there are no blank templates other than the blank page.
If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.
November 22, 2017 at 3:21 pm in reply to: My site just went live and the rounded corners on the boxes aren’t showing on my live site. #23413Arnel CMemberSorry for the problem with the rounded corners not showing. We would need more information in order for us to review the problem. Please provide a URL, the theme you’re using, versions of WordPress and BoldGrid, and the steps you’ve taken so that we can try to replicate the problem. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.
November 22, 2017 at 3:18 pm in reply to: How can I make blocks centre align in a wide browser window? #23424Arnel CMemberHello Clive,
Sorry for the problem with the issues with centering the block in the Wedge theme. Since you’re making conditional upon the Window size (responsiveness of a website is not based on the block size – changes happen based on the window display size), you would have to make changes in the CSS code to make that happen. Center aligning the blocks would not make the site “responsive”. Making a responsively designed website involves much more than simply making sure all the blocks line up in the middle of the screen. I re-read your question in order to try to understand what you’re saying. Are you sure you’re not looking at the text as left-aligned and not the text? If you want a block that ‘s always center-aligned then you can select a new block, add it to your website, then edit it so that the right and left blocks are deleted. This will insure that your block remains centered. You can also leave the text in the middle, change the size of the block so that it occupies most of the space and remains centered. Check out this video and see if it represents what you’re trying to do (I am using the Wedge theme):
Copy the video URL and play it in your browser window or you can play it in the window above. It will show you how I add a block to the page that I’m editing. You can then remove elements in that block, widen it and make sure that it’s always centered. Note that the behavior of change is based on the screen size. I show the differences and how it reacts when I make the window smaller. If you’re referring to the text position, you would need to play with the margins and formatting options for the text so that it is located where you want it specifically.
If you want to control the behavior based on the size of the screen then it requires changing the code because it is not a normal behavior for the theme. The CSS code you would need to use is a media query. This will allow you to set the behavior based on the window size.
I hope this helps to clarify and explain the issue! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
November 22, 2017 at 1:21 pm in reply to: I like to get assistance with changing the site title’s font as there is not an option in the dashboard. #23411Arnel CMemberSorry for the problem with the Site Title. The issue may be related to a Javascript problem related to the version updates of BoldGrid and WordPress. The issue is being reviewed by a developer. We will post a response in regards to the issue as soon as an update or resolution has been found. Typically, the Customizer should be able to change the font of the Site Title. Apologies for the delay in providing you a resolution to the issue.
November 21, 2017 at 9:57 am in reply to: How to show photo and blurb for post rather than whole blog post? #23417Arnel CMemberHi Julielikesfood,
The two options that are available to you for the front page (the first page seen when going to your website) when using WordPress are a static front page or a posts page. The option provided in the customization section under Advanced lets you choose what page or latest posts to display. If you want to only show a short blurb and a picture, then you should probably choose the static page option. You can create a separate page for that purpose and then choose it in the Advanced > Static Front Page option.
Let us know if you still require any assistance!
Arnel CMemberIf you’re not able to connect to the website upon using the Premium key, then it may need to be re-issued. In order for us to investigate the issue, we will need you to provide some information using the feedback widget option. Please provide your account information so that we can research the problem and provide a working key. Apologies for the issues. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
November 20, 2017 at 1:21 pm in reply to: How do I upload a Google HTML file to my website (using Boldgrid) to be able to use Google Search Console. #23430Arnel CMemberYou will need to access your website files in order to add the html file. You can do this using an FTP client or you can use your web host’s interface in order to get to website files saved on the server. The procedure to access the files using your host’s interface may differ based on your host. If you are using a cPanel based interface, access the File Manager, then go to the folder where you have saved your WordPress installation. Upload the HTML file and then follow the rest of the instructions that Google provides.
If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.
Arnel CMemberIf you enter a question anonymously, then you will not see a notification of the response. If you add an email address, then you will see a notification. You can also simply go back to the URL where you asked your question and see the response. During a business week, the questions are typically answered within an hour during business hours.
November 20, 2017 at 1:04 pm in reply to: I purchased a Premium Connect Key but I’m not getting the upgrade features promised vs the Free Connect Key #23421Arnel CMemberIf you’re not seeing the premium key features then you may not be using the proper key. It may need to be re-issued. If you can provide some information using the feedback widget option with your information then they can research your account and make sure that you have a working key. Apologies for the issues. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Arnel CMemberHi Andrew,
Sorry for the problem with the theme icons not showing. In order for us to troubleshoot the issue, we would need more information such as the URL for your site, the theme you’re using and steps that you are taking that lead to the problem. Please provide us more information and we would be happy to look into the problem for you.
Arnel CMemberHello Christophe,
I spoke with one of the developers to get an answer to your question. He provided the following code for adjusting the menu size:
@media only screen and (min-width : 992px) {
.col-md-6.header-6 {
width: calc(100% * (1 / 3));
}
.col-md-6.header-7 {
width: calc(100% * (2 / 3));
}
}You can change the widths as needed. The sizes are proportional so the code above would make the site title/tagline area 1/3 of the space, and the menu 2/3 of the space. That ratio could be changed to 1/4 and 3/4 if you need even more for the menu.
The code above should be applied to the CSS editor in the Customize section. To get there:
- Log in to the WordPress Admin Dashboard
- Click on Customizer
- Click on Advanced
- Click on Custom JS and CSS
- Click on OPEN EDITOR for Theme CSS (blue button)
Then you can paste the code in and save it by clicking on the ‘x’ in the top right-hand corner.
I hope that helps!
Arnel CMemberHello BP,
You can add a widget section that adds the login function. However, you will need to make a page or menu that is based on an assigned user role if you want to limit access to different parts of the site. If you want something beyond the normal WordPress functionality, then you will need to add a third party plugin with that functionality.
Arnel CMemberHello Brett,
Thanks for the question about the floating menus. Currently, that is not a functionality of the BoldGrid plugins. BoldGrid is a plugin for WordPress, so if you want to expand functionality, then my suggestion would be to look at the different plugins that are available for those types of menus. Click here to see an example of one such plugin. Otherwise, you would need to add code to the theme in order to make that kind functionality available.
Arnel CMemberHello Sarah,
It depends on the theme that you’re using. When I look at the contact page of my BoldGrid test site using the Wedge theme, I see a map already added. If you’re trying to position it in a different location on the page, it can only be moved into a specific space because of the page formatting. You would need to change the coding on the page in order to make a change to the template. However, you should be able to go into the visual editor, add an empty section to the bottom of the page, then cut and paste the sections so that you can move sections around. I recorded my actions in the following video:
When I went to select the form, I was using the CTRL-X option on my keyboard to cut the form out and then paste it into the bottom section that I added. I then did this with the Map and moved into the left section. I also tried to the drag option and it worked as well. The section you’re trying to move something into needs to be empty so that you can drag objects into it.
I hope that helps!
Arnel CMemberHello Aubri,
Sorry that you are unable to view your pages in BoldGrid. Are you able to preview your pages from the editor? We would need to be able to see the site in order to try to troubleshoot the issue. Can you provide a URL so that we can see the website? If you wish to handle the issue privately, then please contact your host’s technical support team.
October 12, 2017 at 8:17 pm in reply to: How can I have a page with a search widget, but not in the header? #23585Arnel CMemberThanks!
Arnel CMemberHello John,
Sorry for the issues with the visual editor not working. This is possibly a WordPress issue with caching. We do not have enough information from you in order to troubleshoot the issue. It doesn’t seem to be a common problem with BoldGrid users, but there are different reports in the WordPress Support Forum concerning issues with the Visual editor. They vary based on the version of WordPress you are running. Check out this post based on WordPress 4.7. There’s also another support post based on version 4.8, but it describes the issue as the Visual and Text editors not working. However, both may provide solutions that help to solve your issue. If you want us to continue looking into the matter, please provide your website’s domain and information on the versions of WordPress (plug plugins and themes) and BoldGrid that you have loaded. Additionally, the exact steps you’re taking leading to the error would help us investigate the issue.
Arnel CMemberBoldGrid themes are made to work on different platforms as they are responsively designed. If you changed the formatting in any way, then there is a possibility that something was affected. We would need your site URL in order to investigate the issue in more depth. Please provide this information so that we can troubleshoot the problem.
October 5, 2017 at 1:06 pm in reply to: How to remove Meta section in sidebar of Posts and Posts Page? #23607Arnel CMemberHello David,
Removal of the sidebar in a post typically requires the change in the template for the page in question. However, in the posts for your particular theme (Wedge), this is not possible directly in the theme.
There is a solution though! It will require that you edit the sidebar.php file in your WordPress dashboard. Follow the instructions in this article. It will walk you through the process. The main difference is that you will need to hover over the Customize in the main menu and then select CSS/HTML Editor from the pop-up menu. Once you finish modifying the code, it will remove the side bar.
If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.
Regards,
Arnel C.
