Hello DonMCS,
Thank you for your question about the header widget.
There are a few different ways to get the effect you are looking for. My preferred method, which I think is also the simplest method, is to add the “Above Site Title” widget area add a “Visual Editor” widget.
By default, the “Above Site Title” widget area will be transparent if you use the “Visual Editor” widget.

Christopher MMemberHello Ngarcia24,
Thank you for contacting us about contact form troubleshooting. This can certainly be frustrating when emails are not going through. Setting up the forms is the first part of the program, and it sounds like that was completed successfully on your end. Next, I advise checking the SMTP settings that WordPress is using to send emails.
I use the WP Mail SMTP plugin. It is the easiest and most efficient plugin I have found to get email going from within WordPress.
After you have that installed, go to Settings > Email and input your SMTP settings. Provided you have the correct settings, you should be good to go. I have tested this many times from BoldGrid and always get the desired results.

Christopher MMemberHello Larry,
Thank you for your question about turning over your site to a web developer. There a few things you can consider.
- Check with your hosting company: they might have designers you can hire.
- Otherwise, start with a Google search and check reviews to find a developer you trust.
- Once you have found a developer, you can create a user login for them to access your site
Because BoldGrid can be customized with the built-in tools, you should not need to provide further credentials to your host server, unless the developer needs access to higher resources. This is something you will want to discuss with them.

Christopher MMemberHello Wira,
Thank you for your question about adjusting the position of widgets. This depends on the widget you want to move. Each widget is housed in its own sort of container within another container. So you may be editing the correct widget container but eventually getting constrained by the bigger container.
In your browser, you can right-click on the widget you want to move and “Inspect” it. In the Chrome browser this option is called “Inspect” and in the Firefox browser the same option is called “Inspect element.” In the Safari browser on a Mac you would need to enable the developer tools to get this option.
The above is helpful if you want to edit the right CSS element. I recommend you do so with the custom CSS editor within the Customizer.
But if you let me know which widget you want to move and which theme you are using, we might be able to find a way of moving it without CSS editing.

Christopher MMemberHello bcarlson,
Thanks for your question about uninstalling BoldGrid. I regret that you’re having some difficulties. If you are familiar with how to manage plugins in WordPress, you can deactivate BoldGrid in the same way.
But if you have any other information about the nature of the errors, any other plugins you are using, or how we can replicate the errors, we would love to know. The difficulties you described are not typical.

Christopher MMemberHello Drew,
Thanks for your question regarding call-to-action widgets and background manipulation. I was able to replicate this behavior with the “Wedge” theme. In the case of that theme, it seems that the option is there to make sure the text remains readable over virtually any kind of background image.
Which theme are you using? There is likely a CSS workaround we could introduce, but at the moment that color parameters in the Customizer do not have a dedicated on/off button governing that widget. I’ll mention this to our developers to see what they suggest.

Christopher MMemberHello acrcornelius,
Thanks for your question about embedding PDF files in a BoldGrid site. There is not a dedicated function for it in BoldGrid by default. However, since BoldGrid works withing WordPress, you have access to a wide field of WordPress plugins.
I tested embedding PDFs with the PDF Embedder plugin, and it works well. You can upload a PDF using the Media uploader, as you would with an image, and then add the link to your post or page. Then you will see a window in the page with the PDF displayed.

Christopher MMemberHello acrcornelius,
Thank you for your question about accessing the BoldGrid theme files. Once you have gone through the Inspirations process and selected a theme, that theme will be added to the conventional WordPress themes folder.
You can access this folder by following this path forward from the root directory of your site: /wp-content/themes/.
You will notice that the BoldGrid themes are appended with boldgrid- before the theme title. For example, if you chose the Pavilion theme, you will see a directory called boldgrid-pavilion. You will be able to view and add to the files in that directory.

Christopher MMemberHello abrigo402,
Thank you for your question about featured image sliders. Catch Base is not a BoldGrid theme, so I am not sure how to exactly adjust the settings for their slider.
However, it looks like the theme makes these options available under Appearance > Customize > Featured Content Options. If you are not seeing those menus it may be because you have BoldGrid installed and are using the BoldGrid admin menu system.
You can change this by navigating to Settings > BoldGrid, and looking for the option titled Reorder Admin Menu. For that option, you can uncheck the box for Use BoldGrid Admin Menu system, making sure to Save Changes.
Now you should see the customary WordPress admin menu and get access to the Appearance settings for your theme.

Christopher MMemberHello rd,
Thanks for your questions regarding the use of the Blog Designer plugin with BoldGrid. We’re always interested to know how BoldGrid interacts with other plugins. There is always the possibility that any number of WordPress plugins may act differently or in conflict with each other when active in the same installation.
However, from the screenshots provided I do not see a direct conflict.
I installed the Blog Designer free version in my BoldGrid test site. I saw the same options in my installation as you provided in the screenshot. Then I deactivated all the BoldGrid plugins. The same options remained.
I was able to click on the Blog Designer settings, and I could see what appeared to be an expanded version of the boilerplate WordPress blog settings. It’s possible the extra options you see on the developer’s page are part of the paid version. That is speculation on my part, but seems likely.
The unanswered question in this case might be what benefit there is for you as the user in using two plugins toward the same goal. Even if the designer plugin had the full options available, you would be using a blog design tool inside of a fully-functioning website builder.
If you are hoping to set up a dedicated blog within BoldGrid then you can certainly do it within your current theme. We have a full guide on adding blog posts to BoldGrid.

Christopher M.
Christopher MMemberHello,
We are always happy to support any BoldGrid users, but using a non-BoldGrid theme would surely limit the scope of our knowledge. Nevertheless, thanks for getting in touch with us regarding difficulties with the Artificer theme. As you are surely aware, using a different theme changes the Customizer options. This explains the non-appearance of certain parameters.
The ability to edit your logo in the BoldGrid style would change if you load in a different theme. The style options for the logo in the BoldGrid themes will not be available unless the theme you’re using has similar style parameters.
For the Artificer theme, you would do best following results from the WordPress codex. They have detailed information the structure to which all WordPress themes are bound. From there, you can either make a child theme of Artificer, or edit the files directly (not recommended).
BoldGrid simplifies the process of theme design for users who may not be as comfortable editing the source code directly. However, BoldGrid has a special area in the Customizer to add code in a safe, testing environment. If you have a BoldGrid theme active, go to Customizer > Advanced > Custom JS & CSS. There, you can experiment with CSS code to get different looks.
If you are unsure of which CSS elements to edit, in major browsers like Firefox and Chrome, you can right click on an element on the page and “Inspect” that element. This will show you the page code, and you can know which CSS element is affecting the page.
Let us know if you have further questions.

Christopher M.
Christopher MMemberThe “Call to Action” occupies a widget area, but it is actually a “Visual Editor” widget. As JohnPaul wrote above, you can add a visual editor widget and customize as necessary. Alternatively, re-installing the Pavilion theme in staging would bring back the original Call to Action.
Christopher MMemberHello Peter,
Thanks for your question about deleting and overwriting pages. Are you certain you are editing the same page? If you deleted the Contact Us page it must have been emptied from the trash. Or, are you uncertain as to whether or not the page was deleted originally?
Remember that if you want to start over in BoldGrid there is a dedicated button that will delete all content. You can find this option under BoldGrid > Settings > Start Over, from within the admin menu.

Christopher MMemberHello claysp5bg,
Thank you for your question regarding copying active sites back into staging. Taking the questions in reverse order, the Save & Publish button in active or staging means that the changes are saved and published in whichever environment you’re working in. That is the only way to save. If you want to put the active site back into staging then you can do so by clicking the “Deploy Staging” button under the Customize menu. This basically reverses active and staging so that whatever was in staging becomes active and whatever was in active goes back to staging.
Considering your concern about the old theme that returned, are you asking if the Save & Publish button may have triggered the unintended effect of bringing back an old theme? If that is the case, then it would certainly be an unintended effect, and it is not something we have experienced. However, if that is the case then I would be interested in replicating it. If you have any steps, links, or screenshots that might demonstrate the replication please feel free to provide them.

Christopher MMemberWe have noticed that this problem can occur in older versions of the Chrome browser. If you use Chrome, make sure to upgrade to the newest version. Or, you can try fetching themes in Firefox.
Christopher MMemberThanks for your reply, Sam. Feel free to contact BoldGrid partners anytime. We appreciate your interest!
Christopher MMemberHello,
Thank you for your question regarding nested sub-menus. I’m glad these worked in your initial development. I regret to hear that they no longer showed up after the site was viewed in “real time”. I understand the term real time, but I’m not sure what it means in this context. Do you mean that you when you moved the site from the staging environment to the active environment that the menus did not appear as they had been set before?

Christopher M.
Christopher MMemberHello Sam,
Thank you for your question about official hosts. Are you currently providing WordPress hosting sites? If so, you should contact partners@boldgrid .com for more information regarding how you can become a BoldGrid partner.

Christopher MMemberHello ekeim,
Thank you for your question about WooCommerce. They are certainly compatible. I have tested WooCommerce with Hifidel theme, and I was very satisfied with the outcome. I suggest installing the WooCommerce theme in your WordPress site with BoldGrid to see if it works as well for you. Let us know if you encounter any difficulties.

Christopher MMemberHello Aura,
Thank you for your question about moving the menu bar in your theme. To keep the responsive layout of your site in proper alignment you may want to consider moving the background image instead of altering the position of the menus. If your background image is at a high resolution you can use the background effects, scale, and position options in the customizer to adjust the image.
The basic steps are as follows:
- Log into the admin area
- Click Customize
- Choose Background
- In the left panel, adjust the background effects options and horizontal/vertical position sliders
These should get you the result you need. If not, feel free to provide a link to your site so we can better see what you are seeing.
Best,
Christopher M.
Christopher MMemberHello joegumbo,
Thank you for your question about adding comments to pages. I was able to replicate this issue. I notified our development team, and it looks like there is an issue with the comment form appearing correctly on pages. At the moment, you can still enable comments for posts. I will update this thread with further information. Thank you for letting us know!

Christopher MMemberHello Natalie,
Thank you for your question about the Florentine theme. It is well-advised to remember that all of the BoldGrid themes use a responsive layout and will look a little different on different monitors at varying sizes and different devices like phones and tablets. This makes certain the site will be readable on multiple platforms, but it also means that an element placed in one area may move slightly when viewed at a different size. You may have noticed this in practice when viewing how the Facebook and Twitter websites look different on computer monitors than on phones.
Once you have uploaded your logo image, you should be able to adjust the scale. Is the image resolution high enough to display in your theme? (Feel free to provide a link to your site, so we can see what you mean.)
To make sure the background image will remain visible at varying screen sizes take a look at the scrolling and scaling options available in the customizer. Once logged in to your admin area, click Customize and then choose Background. You will notice how you can adjust the background effects, size, and position.
At the bottom of the customizer window (in the left panel) you can adjust the preview window to switch between a full scale (computer monitor) view and also table and phone views. This demonstrates how the responsive layout changes based on screen sizes.

Christopher MMemberHello Goodbuysale,
Thank you for your question about using ad plugins with BoldGrid. We have a tested a few of the most popular ad plugins and found they did not inhibit use of BoldGrid or other plugins. I advise trying a few different ones and seeing which offer the best interface and ease-of-use for you. For example, if you use Google adsense, then you may favor a plugin that integrates well with Google ads.

Christopher MMemberBoldGrid does not have a dedicated button to turn this link off. This is to make sure that an effort is made to provide attribution for content used freely from third parties, including code and images. Imagine you were a photographer or coder and allowed your work to be used freely and only asked for credit. That’s why the attribution page and Special Thanks link is included.
However, since BoldGrid is open-source, you can modify the code to hide those links should you desire to remove all attribution, but there is not an on/off button in the menu itself.
Christopher MMemberIn reverse order, the page editor has some extra admin options around the text field, so this can affect the width. But remember, if your site is available to the public it will be viewed on different monitors at varying sizes and resolutions (and smartphones and tablets). It may be best to think of your layout as fluid, adjusting itself to fit many spaces.
Regarding your first request, I was not able to replicate that behavior. When I hit the Enter key, a new paragraph begins. It should be the same for you, but if you encountering a glitch then we would certainly hope to find out why. Which version of the BoldGrid Editor plugin are you using?
Christopher MMemberThis override is possible from the Customizer under Fonts. A font-family can be assigned across all headings and subheadings. However, in the new version of BoldGrid you can edit heading style directly from the page editor.
Christopher MMemberHello poldenais,
Thank you for you for your question about the Resolve theme. I installed a brand new Inspiration with Resolve and it matches the demo exactly. Did you have a different theme installed before Resolve? If so, then it’s possible you are seeing content arranged slightly differently. If not, I suggest using the Start Over option to clear out older widgets and gridblocks and doing a fresh Inspiratioon with Resolve.
Best,
Christopher M.
Christopher MMemberThe easiest way may be to clone the column with the width you like three times. Then you would have three equal columns to edit. You can leave the left and right columns blank and fill the the middle column with text. Or, you can add images and other content to the left and right blocks.
Christopher MMemberHello Jimm,
Thank you for your question about background images on your blog page. The background image you’re seeing is likely the background image for your theme, which means it will be the same across your whole site and any page you create. This is meant to keep a consistent look across pages. If you would like your blog to have a different look and feel you can use the Multiple Themes plugin or consider installing a dedicated WordPress blog in a subdirectory like “/blog”.
Best,
Christopher M.Christopher MMemberThis is certainly possible, but it is not a standard feature in WordPress. You will just need to install a third party plugin with that feature. You can find these at the WordPress plugin Repo.
