Top 5 E-Commerce Blogs on The Internet

Website Marketing

There’s a lot of great content out there when it comes to operating your own e-commerce business. But the amount of choices can be downright dizzying. That’s why we’ve compiled our Top 5 picks for best e-commerce blogs.

The Criteria

It would be more difficult to choose the “best” blogs without some sort of criteria by which to measure them. So I went with a few basic parameters here:

  • Quality and clarity of the writing
  • Strategic use of HTML elements (like headings, lists, blockquotes, etc.)
  • General site navigation (is it easy to find what you’re looking for?)
  • And an overall WOW! factor
With this combination of worthy features I thought my search would be easy. But these are all high-quality sites, so whichever one you choose you’re going to be in good hands. (If there’s any disagreement between all of these blogs it’s that everyone seems to spell e-commerce differently.)

The Blogs

Now here is our list of the top 5 e-commerce blogs. I’d recommend checking these whenever you feel like dipping into the world of e-commerce trends, issues, and success stories. But as far as how often to check them, that depends on how much content you allow for in your “information diet”; because too much information can have you extending your efforts in all directions. You can’t do everything these blogs suggest. It’s best to focus on only a few issues at a time.

Shopify Blog

The Shopify blog is available to everyone, but Shopify itself provides a paid hosting option with premium e-commerce features. Whether you’re engaged in the Shopify service or not, the blog can be a great resource covering trends and strategies for beginners and advanced shop owners alike. The quality of writing on this blog is solid and highly readable. They make use of all the niceties like section headings, lists, and blockquotes, so you can easily skim around these pages while enjoying your morning coffee. If you don’t have time to read a whole page, you can easily jump around. The site is also well organized as far as navigation goes, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding what you were looking for.

eCommerceFuel

eCommerceFuel is a private community that limits membership to 7-figure shop owners. But their blog is freely available to the public; and members of the private forum regularly contribute content there. So you can be sure that the information contained here is relevant and of high value. In addition to high-quality content writing, I like the layout of the site, which includes a lot of white space (not very many ads at all). It’s a very readable design. And the simple navigation helps you find what you’re looking for. Make sure to click the blog link at the top of the page to get there. There’s also a search bar, recommended articles, and categories. So I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding your way around.

Channel Advisor Blog

Channel Advisor offers a paid marketing service but they’re blog is quite nice and free. Once you arrive on the blog you’ll find the site is highly clickable and has an attractice layout. Blog categories include various subdivisions such as Brands, Channel Advisor (the service itself), Digital Marketing, Industry Trends, and Marketplaces. If any of those sound interesting to you (and we figure they do because you’re reading this) then you’ll likely find plenty of shareable, well-researched, high-dollar content to peruse. As far as WOW! factor goes, it’s a fair site, but if you’re interested in content then you’ll find plenty here.

DeMac Media Blog

I always like it when a blog gives me the average reading time alongside the post. This means you can budget your attention out more accurately. That’s one of the features you may also like on the DeMac Media Blog. And whether you’re interested in their consulting services or not, DeMac Media’s blog provides some deep insights divided among an impressively long and comprehensive category list. You can discover detailed posts about building a business, eBooks, Development, Digital Marketing, and much more. If you land on the DeMac Media home page, just make sure to go to /blog to see what I’m talking about.

Practical Ecommerce

Tech-savvy shop owners and developers may get a kick out of the PracticalEcommerce blog, but users of all technical experience levels will find something of value. As far as navigation and organization goes, there are category listing as well as recommendations of posts based on popularity with readers. The blog also features a “Merchant Voice” section which highlights unique perspectives from a variety of e-commerce experts from around the globe. If you’re interested in going international with your store, you may want to check this out.

How to Follow these E-Commerce Blogs

I’d definitely suggest bookmarking these sites in your browser and checking in from time to time. If you’re interested in an RSS reader, so you can quickly search through new articles, I’d recommend a service like NewsBlur, where you can copy and paste URLs for each of these blogs easily. Then, you can search one source for all of the latest news.
